About the Artist

I am a painter, printmaker and mixed media artist. After a career in graphic design in Boston, I returned to art school and received a B.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. Since 1999, I have been working in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood in an artist cooperative building. My work, including site-specific commissions, can be found in private collections.

For several years I have been teaching workshops in and around Boston at the New Art Center in Newton and DeCordova Museum in Lincoln. New workshops are being developed for the Fort Point Studio School and an Art Retreat Day for groups of non-artists to escape the desk and computer and come together and work collaboratively in my large open studio.

About the Work

In my work, the mediums overlap and converge on canvas, paper and wood panels. It starts with color – color that is evocative of places and moments. Paintings begin, and then during the creative process encaustic and collage often merge with the paint to create images rich in color using patterns and shapes found in nature. The prints are created with polystyrene plates and water soluble inks. These plates are printed and overprinted by hand playing with transparency and layering creating unique prints. Following ideas intuitively, I am interested in the relationship of colors, shapes and textures as they come together to create something new. The work strives for simplicity and balance, creating a peaceful experience.

I am also involved in several on-going collaborative projects with groups of artists working within a theme to create unique books and collections.
